From the Whole, the Whole is Taken, yet the Whole Remains.

Om Purnamadaha
Purnamidam
Purnat
Purnamudachyate
Purnasya
Purnamadaya
Purnamiwa Washishyate
Om Shanti Shanti Shantih

This Sanskrit Chant appears as the Shanti Path (Invocation of Peace) at the beginning of one of the great Upanishads, the Ishavasya, also called the Isha Upanishad..

You could call it a great statement of Advaita (non-dualism). It could also be regarded in a similar light to a Zen ‘Koan’, a mysterious simple statement holding a profound wisdom.

The translation:

Om. That is the Whole, this is the Whole.
From the Whole the Whole is taken and the Whole manifests.
Even though the Whole is taken from the Whole, still the Whole remains.
Om Peace Peace Peace

Here is Swamiji chanting the mantra seven times.
